Kathmandu. Police on Thursday arrested Upasana Paudel, an absconding accused in money laundering, insurance act and securities offences, among others. Poudel, who is the chief executive officer of Himalayan Reinsurance, was arrested from Babarmahal, police said.
The government had filed a case against Paudel in the Special Court and the Kathmandu District Court on June 28 on various criminal charges. During the investigation, he was named as an absconding accused in the police report after he did not appear for statement. Paudel had gone to India for treatment before the police started arresting him for investigation in a case related to the misappropriation of investment of Himalayan Reinsurance.
According to the Police Office, Nepal Insurance Authority, Kupandole, Lalitpur. According to the inspection report, 39-year-old Poudel, a resident of Dakshinkali Municipality Ward No. 3 of Kathmandu district, was arrested from Babarmahal during the investigation into the offence as per clause (g) and (i) of Section 140 sub-section (1) of the Insurance Act, 2079.
He was arrested with the permission of Kathmandu District Court, according to the District Police Office.
