Kathmandu. The date of the 2027 Asian Cup, which was scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, has been changed.
The date of the tournament has been changed due to the numerous attacks in Saudi Arabia and the deteriorating situation in the region. The Asian Cup was initially scheduled to be held from January 7 to February 5, 2027. The date has now been postponed and will be held from December 23, 2027 to January 21, 2028.
The Asian Football Confederation (AAFC) said in a statement: “Taking into account the current situation in the region and travel difficulties, the decision to reschedule the tournament has been made.” ’
The AFC has also made it clear that the new dates will be submitted to FIFA for approval.
It is worth noting that the Houthi rebels recently attacked the Riyadh airport. In which 13 people were killed and more than 300 were injured. This has raised concerns about the security of the Saudi and regional situation. – Agency
