Kathmandu. Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz once again amid the announcement of a second date for peace talks between the United States and Iran.

In a new statement on Saturday morning, a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said the strait would return to “its former state”… “Under the strict management and control of the Armed Forces”.

The statement, carried by Iran’s Fars news agency, accused the US of “piracy”, and said its “so-called blockade” amounted to pirate activity.

Tensions between Iran and the United States are likely to escalate again as Pakistani officials say they will resume formal talks on Monday.

The move came after U.S. President Donald Trump reopened the strait to commercial shipping on Friday, but threatened to impose U.S. sanctions “in full force” unless Tehran reaches a deal with the United States.

Trump has also threatened to attack Iran further. Asked what he would do if a deal was reached after the ceasefire expires next week, Trump said: “I don’t know. Maybe I won’t extend it, but the blockade will continue.  So the blockade will remain in place and, unfortunately, we will have to start dropping bombs again. “

The ongoing dispute, which follows advice to stock up on some items and “prepare for the unexpected” as the US-Iran war drags on, risks causing more problems for British households. There are also fears of potential fuel shortages and rising bills.
