The company created about 5 minutes of advertising. It depicts a man looking for a partner who is “not influenced by other men”.

The ad takes a turn at the end. When a man’s new partner breaks up with him because of his anti-misogynistic attitude. The ad then goes on to portray Dettol as a symbolic solution to “toxic men.”

Some users on Chinese social media have criticized the ad, saying it “objectifies women”. Some even called for a boycott of the brand.

After the controversy escalated, Dettol clarified that some parts of the ad went viral. As a result, its original message was misinterpreted.

The company has apologized to women in particular. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Dettol has been embroiled in controversy. Last year, it faced criticism for an ad.

“A girl was sent back before marriage,” the ad reads. Because she was not ‘clean’ (virgin),” it was claimed. –Agency
