KATHMANDU: The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that a cargo ship was targeted in the Sea of Oman and that Iran’s navy was prevented from proceeding as it tried to evade the blockade.
CENTCOM said in a statement that despite repeated warnings, the ship’s crew tried to break the Iranian blockade several times. According to CENTCOM, the U.S. military aircraft accurately hit the stern of the St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged cargo ship ‘HUDA’. As a result, it became inoperable.
The statement said the U.S. military had warned the crew before the attack. CENTCOM also said the ship was planning to depart after docking in an Iranian port.
CENTCOM stressed that it will continue to strictly enforce Iran’s naval blockade. According to CENTCOM, since July, the US military has intercepted 147 cargo ships and prevented five from advancing. Because they have refused to comply with orders.
CENTCOM also reported that it had previously destroyed 10 other Iranian cargo tankers. Which the U.S. military alleges were part of a multibillion-dollar network known as the Revolutionary Guard’s “shadow fleet.” -Agency
