“NATO has been telling Denmark for 20 years, ‘You need to remove the Russian threat from Greenland,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday. Unfortunately, Denmark has failed to do anything in this direction. Now the time has come and it will be done. ’
Trump’s statement comes at a time when some European countries have opposed Trump’s proposal to annex Greenland to the United States. Earlier, Trump had also talked about imposing 10 percent tariffs on eight European countries that support Greenland.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Sunday that Europe cannot be blackmailed. ’
The US President argues that if Greenland is not annexed to the US, Russia or China will annex it. Greenland is a semi-autonomous island in Denmark. Denmark and some European countries have opposed Trump’s proposal.
