Kathmandu. Nepal Micro Insurance, nepal’s first small non-life insurance company, has taken bold steps to fight the fake insurance claim gang. Recently, the company has taken unprecedented steps by collaborating with Nepal Police to catch fake claim gangs in the insurance sector for a long time.

The District Police Range, Kathmandu, in collaboration with the company, has arrested six members of a gang claiming fake insurance at different places on September 15. The arrestees have been identified as Sunil Maharjan and Bikesh Kunwar of Godavari-14 of Lalitpur, Binod Dangol of Kathmandu-14, Hari Prasad Gautam of Panchkhal-2 of Kavre, Sunil Sapkota of Sarlahi and Manoj Kumar Acharya of Bara Nijgadh-6.

According to the preliminary investigation, the arrested persons had prepared documents of being injured in fake accidents to kill the claim money of third-party medical insurance at different times and submitted them to the company. Kathmandu District Court has remanded them in police custody for five days for further investigation.

Investigation is underway against those arrested and a search is underway as it seems that others may also be involved in such incidents, police said.

In such cases, other insurance companies have remained silent to protect their brand image. However, Nepal Micro Insurance took the opposite decision and provided necessary confidential information to the police and demanded that one of its own employees involved in the case be presented in the police investigation.

The company claims that this bold step has not only saved the brand of the company, but it has also strengthened the trust of the people in the entire insurance industry. “This proves our unwavering commitment to honesty, transparency and accountability, a price to which every insurance company must commit,” said Susan Thapa, information officer of the company.

Thapa said that this decision has shown real corporate good governance and responsibility towards the industry. “This step deserves high respect from all the insurance industry and stakeholders,” Thapa said.
