Kathmandu. The Group Micro-Hit Hazard Hospitalization Care Health Insurance (GMHM) scheme has been launched in Taiwan. It will provide coverage to those affected by heat stroke, heat syncope, heat cramps and other heat-related illnesses.

The premiums will be fully funded by the Nan Shan Life Charity Foundation. According to the Taipei Times, the plan approved the program on May 28 with a one-year trial period.

According to FSC President Peng Jin-lung, the plan is an important public-private collaboration in climate adaptation. This is because extreme heat has a direct impact on public health and socio-economic development.

Yin Chung-yao, president of Nanshan Life Insurance, said that heat injuries usually require hospitalization for 4 days. “After that, there is two to three days of recovery at home. That results in a loss of about $340,” he said.

According to him, the company will review the appropriate amount after a one-year pilot program. “In the first year, the program will cover people between the ages of 15 and 75,” he said. However, this can be expanded later. —Agency
