Kathmandu. The outbreak of bird flu (H5N1) that started from some districts of Koshi Province in April has reached the Kathmandu Valley of late.
Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the Department of Livestock Services said that bird flu has been confirmed in 82 places of 11 districts of the country and high alertness has been adopted to control it.
According to the department, bird flu was confirmed for the first time in Morang district on March 14 this season.
The department has so far destroyed 5,69,858 birds, 9,89,313 eggs and 1,95,485 kg of feed in the disease-affected areas.TAG_OPEN_div_10 The Jawalakhel Zoo in the Kathmandu Valley has been closed after some birds died due to the disease.
