Kathmandu. The Balen Shah-led government has been tough on the use of illegal betting apps and websites. The government has so far shut down more than 7,000 online betting apps and websites.
On the instructions of the government, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority has banned these betting apps and websites. The NTA has shut down the apps and websites in coordination with the Internet Service Providers as part of the implementation of the government’s decision regarding governance reforms.
The 100 agendas related to governance reforms approved by the meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 27 states that betting apps and websites will be shut down within 24 hours. NTA has directed the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to identify and shut down such apps and websites accordingly.
The authority has also urged the general public not to use and operate betting apps and websites. The authority has warned that action would be taken if it was found using it illegally.
