Kathmandu. Following the devastating floods and landslides in Ilam district a few months ago, Met Life Nepal has extended support to the affected families by distributing 500 liters of water tanks.
Heavy rains on 18 and 19 October 2002 wreaked havoc across the district — swept away bridges, damaged houses and cut off access to essential services. Many households were deprived of a stable source of clean water, leading to displacement and recovery difficulties.
Recognizing the urgent need for safe and reliable water storage, MetLife Nepal has partnered with Sungava to provide durable reservoir tanks to some of the most affected households in remote areas. Through this initiative, over 80 of the 338 displaced households will now have access to safe water storage to meet their daily needs and maintain sanitation during the reconstruction phase.
The distribution process is being carried out in close coordination with local ward offices and disaster response committees to ensure fair and transparent beneficiary selection. Local volunteers and technical teams from Oringava will oversee distribution, documentation and monitoring to ensure that each family receives the tanks safely and on time.
Speaking about the initiative, Nirmal Kaji Shrestha, General Manager of MetLife Nepal said, “Access to clean water is not just about survival – it’s about dignity and hope. We are grateful to partner with Sunagabha Development Organization to help rebuild the lives of Ilam families by providing them with the necessary resources to ensure their well-being. ”
