Kathmandu. Considering the increasing number of wild bear attacks in Japan and other tourist destinations, Blue Cross (Asia Pacific) Insurance has launched a limited period bear attack additional coverage (Bear Attack Additional Coverage) insurance plan.
Through March 31, 2026, its travel insurance products will provide an additional $385.29 in cash if a traveler is attacked by a bear and requires medical treatment overseas. According to the company, this insurance coverage will apply to bear-affected areas around the world.
Climate change and habitat change have led to bears appearing in areas inhabited by humans. Wild bear attacks are on the rise in Japan’s tourist areas such as Hokkaido, Tohoku, Nagano and Shirakawa-go.
The Blue Cross advises passengers not to run, to retreat slowly and to protect their head, neck and abdomen in case of a bear encounter. To promote this travel coverage, the company will provide SmartClub members with an electronic premium coupon worth $6.42. This coupon can be used with Travel Smart plan and other promo codes.
