Kathmandu. Employees of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) have postponed the pen down program from today. However, they have decided to continue their one-hour sit-in until their demands are met.
Issuing a joint statement today, the employees’ union active in Sebon and the Independent Employees Union said that the sit-in program will continue. This clearly shows that the employees are apprehensive about the assurances of the Ministry of Finance and the Sebon Board.
The employees had started the protest from September 23 by disagreeing with the decision of the Ministry of Finance (Revenue Secretary) on September 16 and the letter dated September 20 to scrap the work procedure related to the employees of SEBON, to return the perks and facilities received as an employee in the past, and to take the consent of the Ministry of Finance on the issue of creating financial liability.
“The Ministry of Finance has agreed to address our demands during the talks with both the unions of SEBON,” the statement reads. ’
The employees have decided to change the form of the protest that started 48 days ago until the Finance Ministry provides a complete solution to the current difficult situation. “As per this decision, we have suspended the pen down program for the time being and have returned to work for the time being,” the statement reads.
According to the press release, the Ministry of Finance will approve the Employees Service Conditions Regulations of SEBON by addressing their demands by mid-November. “If the commitments made to the employees are not implemented by mid-November, the trade unions will continue the agitation and move ahead in a more powerful way,” the statement warned.
