What happened?
In the statement issued by the Lucknow Police, the complainant Sandeep Wadkur had filed a written statement. In December 2012, Ravi Shankar, the insured of Aviva India, was issued an insurance policy of Rs 25 lakh.
On April 21, 2023, Kesh Kumari filed an insurance claim claiming that her husband had died on April 9. She filed a death claim of Rs 25 lakh.
On the basis of documents submitted by Kumari, the insurance company accepted the claim and the insurance amount was transferred to Kumari’s account on April 21, police said. However, an internal police investigation revealed that Shankar was alive and a case was registered.
Police said they were trying their best to evade arrest of both Shankar and Kumari. However, they were later arrested and brought to the police station and both confessed to the crime during interrogation.
