Finance Minister and Chairman of China’s SIDCA sign MoU on four projects

Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel and a delegation led by Chairman of China’s International Development Assistance Agency (SIDCA) Chen Xiaodong held a meeting today. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Finance, discussions were held on bilateral relations between Nepal and China, development partnership, projects operated with China’s assistance and to be operated now.

After the bilateral meeting, the signing of MoUs on four projects has been concluded. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on the project related to the construction of bone marrow transplantation at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan and a feasibility study for the expansion of civil servants hospital. Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyay and Sidka Chairman signed the agreement on behalf of Nepal and China respectively.

A bone marrow cancer treatment centre spread over an area of 1,834 square meters will be constructed at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur and necessary machinery will be installed. This will significantly contribute to the treatment of bone marrow cancer.

Similarly, a feasibility study will also be conducted for the expansion of civil servants hospital. The implementation of these two agreements is expected to contribute significantly to Nepal’s health sector.

On this occasion, Nepal and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on human resource development. This will provide an opportunity to 1,270 government employees to participate in bilateral and multilateral seminars organized by various organizations in China. This will significantly contribute to the capacity building of the employees.

On the occasion, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Hitendra Dev Shakya and Chairman of SID signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the feasibility study for construction of rasuwagadhi-Kerung cross-border transmission line. This will advance the feasibility study related to the construction of Rasuwagadhi Kerung transmission line.

Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Poudel thanked the Sidca Chair for visiting Nepal, highlighting nepal-China multi-dimensional relations. He expressed the view that the high-level visit would take bilateral relations to a new height.

Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay said the signed projects would contribute to Nepal’s health sector, human resource development and cross-border power trade and would be beneficial for the Nepali people. He expressed the belief that China would provide more support in infrastructure development in the coming days.

Chinese commitment to assist in the reconstruction of flood-damaged physical structures

Rasuwa: China has agreed to help in the reconstruction of physical structures caused by floods in Rasuwa district.

In the meeting with Finance Minister Poudel, SIDCA Chairman Xiaodong said that the government would provide necessary support for the reconstruction of physical structures and work in such a way that the customs process would be operated at the earliest. He thanked the Government of Nepal for its proactive ness and support in rescuing and searching for those missing in the aftermath of the floods.

Stating that post-disaster reconstruction was nepal’s top priority, Finance Minister Poudel thanked the Chinese side for their readiness, concern and commitment towards the reconstruction of physical structures. “The Rasuwa border point is important not only for import and export but also in terms of revenue,” he said. ’
