Kathmandu. The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has threatened to launch an agitation after the Consumer Court issued an order to provide exorbitant compensation to the hospital.
Urging the court to review the decision, the Association has drawn the attention of all concerned bodies including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Law, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Supplies and Office of the Attorney General.
The association is scheduled to hold extensive discussions with the hospital chiefs, private medical and dental college association, AFIN, doctors’ society and others on Monday regarding the court proceedings.
Kathmandu: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has alleged that the hearing and decision of the consumer court at a time when nepal medical council is the semi-judicial body for conducting hearings related to medical services is judicial interference.
President of Nepal Medical Association. Anil Karki has said that the decision beyond the jurisdiction of the Consumer Court has chosen the presence of The Nepal Medical Council.
He said that the decision of the consumer court, which does not have the expertise related to medical services, is invalid. He said, “We will not be able to provide the service if we continue to hear the case of medical services in the consumer court related to the Department of Industry.”
The Nepal Medical Association has also threatened to launch a strong agitation if the government does not take prompt and appropriate steps against the activism of the consumer court. The association has called upon all doctors and health workers to remain prepared.
Stating that the court’s decision to convict the nepal medical council in the non-conviction case was biased, Karki warned that no doctor would be able to serve if the court continues to take action against the hospital and doctors.
The association has said that there is no expert related to medical services in the consumer court, the court did not consult the experts and the decision was taken unilaterally without seeking the opinion of the Nepal Medical Council.
The consumer court, which was formed last Chaitra month, has decided to pay a total fine of Rs 25 million against Om Hospital, Grandi City Hospital and Himal Hospital and the doctors involved in the treatment.
