According to nea, electricity will be exported to Bangladesh through India for five months from June 1 as per the tripartite agreement. Nepal is exporting more electricity to Bangladesh this year as compared to last year.

As per the tripartite agreement signed on October 17, 2081, it was agreed to sell electricity from June 15 to November 15.

It was feared that the NEA would get payment of the tariff while exporting electricity on credit to Bangladesh, a South Asian neighboring country facing extreme economic crisis.

According to the NRA, there is no such problem this time as bangladesh has not opened the letter of credit.

The Adani group had to write to the interim government’s chief adviser, Mohammad Yunus, after indian businessman Gautam Adani’s Adani Power failed to pay for the electricity export to Bangladesh through thermal power stations.

Adani Power has agreed to export 1,600 MW of electricity to Bangladesh. It has been exporting electricity to Bangladesh from the coal-based power project located in Godda, Jharkhand state. According to bbc.com, from October 2024 to March 2025, Adani Power significantly cut power supply after it failed to pay $850 million in dues from Bangladesh. After the commitment to pay the dues, the power supply was resumed from March 27.

Earlier, Nepal exported 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh for the first time on November 30, 2081. Bangladesh is yet to pay for the electricity exported by Nepal at 6.40 US cents per unit. According to the NRA, Bangladesh is yet to receive $30,080.

This year too, electricity generated through the 25 MW Trishuli and 22 MW Chilime hydropower projects constructed with Indian assistance will be exported to Bangladesh.
