Kathmandu. US Vice President JD Vance has called for firing US employees and taking strong action against companies seeking foreign workers under the H-1B scheme.
This move comes at a time when the Trump administration is tightening restrictions on visa holders. As a result, foreign nationals are finding it difficult to work in the US. This has raised concerns especially among foreign professionals. Because most foreign nationals have become the biggest beneficiaries of US H-1B visas.
In a post on X, the US Vice President wrote, “The government is considering ways to prevent companies from claiming labor shortages by reducing the American workforce. Many companies apply for H-1B and say they can’t find workers. Then when you look at their history, you will find that they have fired 5,000 people. ’
Vance further wrote, “If a company is firing American workers, it should not replace them with foreign workers.” The H-1B visa program is not meant to replace American workers. The purpose of the H-1B should not be to replace American workers with low-wage foreign workers. Its purpose should be to strengthen the U.S. economy. ’
On September 18, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to consider workforce cuts when reviewing H-1B petitions. It insists that employers should not fire U.S. workers when implementing the H-1B program.
