Kathmandu. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has announced that the global airspace will be closed for Iranian airlines from September 23. With this announcement, Turkey, Iraq and Georgia have announced that they will ban Iranian airlines from entering their countries.
According to an AFP report, two Iraqi officials said on Monday that Iraq would suspend Iranian Airlines flights following an announcement by the US Treasury Department. Georgia has since also banned Iranian airlines from entering its territory.
Earlier on Saturday, Iranian airline Mahan Air announced that it had suspended its flights to Turkey at the request of the Turkish government. The company said that Turkey had asked to stop the flights.
It is worth noting that about two weeks ago, the US Treasury Department added 27 Iranian airlines to its sanctions list. This has increased the pressure on Iranian airlines. – Agency
