Kathmandu. On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, MetLife Nepal has successfully organized a massive tree plantation volunteer program in Patap village of Sankharapur Municipality. The event was funded by the MetLife Foundation in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and the Field Institute for Ecocultural Restoration (Ecoculture).
About 50 MetLife Nepal colleagues planted 500 fruits, nuts and saplings along the F026 highway and the Shankharapur road corridor in Patap village, about 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu. The initiative aims to promote the transition from monoculture farming to a sustainable agroforestry system. The timur, walnut and peach saplings were selectively planted with the objective of creating long-term income opportunities for the local community along with environmental protection.
Located in the foothills of the mountainous region, Patap village has been sensitive to environmental hazards such as soil erosion, floods and landslides. The initiative aims to conserve biodiversity, enhance land sustainability and strengthen community resilience through a combination of reforestation and agricultural practices. The Field Institute will continue to collaborate with local communities to ensure proper conservation and long-term monitoring of the planted plants.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Nirmal Kaji Shrestha, General Manager of MetLife Nepal said, “This project is a celebration of MetLife’s purpose. With the invaluable support of the MetLife Foundation and our trusted partners, we are proud to partner with the community to restore ecosystems, promote livelihood opportunities, and build sustainable environmental resilience for future generations. ”
