Kathmandu. The G-7, a group of the world’s leading developed countries, on Tuesday issued a stern warning to Iran for supporting the Houthi rebels.
The foreign ministers of the G-7 countries issued a joint statement calling on Iran to immediately stop arming and supporting the Houthi rebels in Yemen. In a high-level meeting held before the UN General Assembly, the G-7 countries (Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States) also strongly condemned the Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia.
“The recent escalation of aggression against Saudi Arabia threatens the energy security of the region and the world,” the official statement said. The G7 called on the Houthi rebels to immediately cease all military activities, attacks and threats.
“The reprehensible actions of these rebel groups indicate a dangerous escalation of tensions. This poses a serious risk of further escalation of conflict, disruption of international trade, and global economic instability,” the statement added. ’
“We will continue to support the legitimate government of Yemen and reiterate our strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen,” the G7 countries said. ’
