The Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) held a discussion and interaction program on ‘IPPAN for Energy Sector Development’ at 4:00 pm on June 4 at Silver Work Party Palace in Baluwatar.
Giving a presentation at the gathering, IPPAN Deputy General Secretary Prakash Dulal said that around 4300 MW of electricity has been installed at present. The installed capacity is 3662 MW. That is, 85 percent of the electricity is being generated from the private sector, about 5800 MW of electricity. The project is being constructed by the private sector and has a capacity capacity of about 2100 MW. He informed that the government is preparing to construct 30000 MW in 10 years. After completing the study of the project, about 16000 MW has applied for PPA. He said that it was necessary to open the PPA of the project immediately.
Currently, Dulal has implemented 190 hydropower projects with a capacity of 3,797 capacity, 262 generating licenses of 1,2103 MW and 9,088 MW generating license applications. 53 survey permits issued 11,000 MW A total of 43,694 MW, including 242 and 7,706 MW or 235 survey permit applications. A total of 982 projects are underway.
According to him, 27 projects of 154 MW have been operationalized, 9 projects of 54 MW have been issued, and 72 MW production license applications have been issued. Survey permit issued 2000 MW A total of 2,480 MW has been received, including 88 and 200 MW or 17 survey permit applications. He said that although 146 projects are being forwarded, 451 projects are expected to be members of IPPAN in the 21st Annual General Meeting and around 700 projects are expected to be members of IPPAN in the 24th Annual General Meeting.
According to the statute amendment and rewriting committee formed along with the selection of the leadership from the 21st Annual General Meeting of the organization, there should be no automatic chairperson to elect the leadership through democratic process, a person who has worked in IPPAN should be allowed to become the chairman and the office bearers should be elected as a change of leadership according to the time.
Stating that IPPAN should be unified, effective, transparent and responsible for implementing decisions along with corporate governance, he said that 101 companies are listed in the stock market and around 50 companies are in the process of issuing IPOs. According to him, IPPAN should be able to accommodate and respect all along with the selection of leadership through a democratic process, be able to represent the energy sector as a whole and give suggestions to the government with solutions.
Founder and former President of IPPAN, Dr. Speaking at the event, Sandip Shah said that IPPAN, which started its journey in 2057 BS with four companies, has now become a center of trust of 700 companies and today it is necessary to elect the leadership through a democratic process by resolving the disputes in the statute ।
On the occasion, senior energy entrepreneur Guru Prasad Neupane called on all to unite by holding elections in a way to include all after some days by postponing the election by passing the general assembly statute of the organization. ‘
In the program, energy entrepreneur Eng. Binod Devkota urged the party leadership to unify the organization by implementing the statute endorsed by the statute after he fielded his candidacy for the post of General Secretary in the last election and was scrapped due to the statute statute and at the same time a statute amendment and rewriting committee was formed under the coordination of IPPAN advisor Er. Bhanubhakta Pokharel.

On the occasion, Uttam Bhlon, a contender for the post of vice-president and senior vice-president, stressed on the need of unity rather than split in the organization. Lama said, “If the working committee unanimously accepts Balram Khatiwada for the post of senior vice-president for the larger interest and consensus of IPPAN, I am ready to give up my claim and support as an advisor.” Stating that the need of the hour was to move ahead together rather than splitting within the organization, Lama proposed that IPPAN should be transformed from the traditional form to the FNJ structure.
The program was organized by the advisor of IPPAN, E. L.K.C. Expressing the necessary commitment to further strengthen the brand of IPPAN in the international arena, he stressed on the unity of the members by changing the statute to include all to move ahead by protecting the organization’s reputation.
Senior vice-president Mohan Dangi said that the statute would be amended as per the time to make it more dynamic. Stating that the IPPAN statute established in 2057 BS had already been revised in 2067, 2076 and 2078 BS, Dangi said, “The working committee is seriously doing homework to further refine the statute as per the changing situation and necessity.” ’
Speaking at the program, IPPAN President Karki said that the government’s 100-point program to generate 30,000 MW electricity, opening PPA, and one door PO was a big success of IPPAN.
Krishna Prasad Acharya, former president of IPPAN, who chaired the program, expressed his commitment to resolve the disputes seen in the working committee through discussions. He appealed to all the members to unite in the context of the upcoming leadership election and suggested to make a document that would be welcomed by all by making the statute amendment free of fraud and cheating. Acharya said that the statute should be amended as a common document to be accepted by all. He added that there should not be any fraud or deception in the statute to be tabled in the upcoming general assembly.
IPPAN General Secretary Balram Khatiwada, who conducted the program, said that there should be morality in the leadership and opportunity should be given to the new generation.
Speakers at the event warned that if investors were not organized, the government would ignore them. Citing the example of the protest against the hike in insurance premiums, they said, “No matter who comes to power, it will not roll out the red carpet for us, but it can lay thorns.” If our organization is not strong at this time, we cannot do anything. ’
Stating that activism is more important than holding a post in the organization, they have suggested that consensus should be given priority over election. “If it takes time to make a unanimous decision, then postpone the election for a while, but don’t let the organization split,” they said. They also suggested that the unanimous decision would strengthen the institution rather than the election.
The meeting was attended by 350 private sector entrepreneurs and investors related to the hydropower sector with the main objective of making the amendment of the statute as the main agenda of the 24th annual general meeting of IPPAN.
