Kathmandu. Although the presence of women in the upper level of the insurance sector is weak, the presence of women in the first line of the market is found to be very promising among the agents and new recruits. The Insurance Authority of Nepal has taken this as a strong basis to prepare future leadership.
According to the report of the Insurance Authority, 44 percent of the total agents in life insurance companies are women, while the number of newly registered agents is 54 percent. This is the category where the number of women is more than men.
Similarly, 46 percent of the agents in small life insurance are women, while the share of women in new agents is half or 50 percent. 75 percent of the new recruits to the board of directors of small life insurance and 67 percent of the manager level are women.
The non-life insurance sector is still weak in this regard. In non-life insurance, there are only 23 per cent female agents, while 25 per cent of new agents are women and 63 per cent are men. Similarly, the new executive recruitment is still dominated by men.
The report states that the role of women agents is important in winning trust at the community level and spreading the insurance business. The authority has called on companies to adopt strategies to reach the leadership level of tomorrow by providing mentorship, training and professional development opportunities to women agents and employees who are on the foundation.
