Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that he may ask European countries to release some of their diesel reserves.
Trump is considering banning the export of diesel from the United States amid the shortage of diesel. Trump’s comments came after US Treasurer Scott Besant urged Europe to maintain such reserves and release them if necessary. Besant said, “The burden of rising prices should not be passed on to American farmers, truck drivers, and businesses. ’
The U.S. has threatened to ban diesel exports amid rising prices due to the war in Iran. The issue is important to American voters ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.
Britain on Thursday held talks with European partners about releasing diesel reserves in the event of a possible ban. The United States is a major supplier of diesel to the world. It exports 12 million to 15 million barrels of diesel daily.
Experts have warned that banning the supply of diesel abroad could put further pressure on prices in other countries. – Agency
