Kathmandu. The District Administration Office (DAO), Chitwan has decided to collect the unidentified bodies of those who lost their lives in the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The administration office has decided to bury the unidentified dead bodies, citing that it would not be easy to store the dead bodies for a long time due to the lack of adequate equipment, infrastructure and human resources required for the storage of dead bodies.
Issuing a statement, Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Ganesh Prasad Aryal, said, “We request you to take this decision positively in this difficult and tragic situation. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the victim’s family due to this decision.” ‘
A meeting of the District Security Committee of Chitwan on Saturday decided to dispose of all the dead bodies under the ground as per the Identity and Unclaimed Dead Bodies Management (First Amendment) Directive-2083 BS in order to protect the citizens from the risk of further infection and to make the legal management of the dead bodies dignified and safe.
A total of 233 bodies have been recovered from Chitwan district so far. Out of the bodies recovered, only four bodies have been identified so far, while the remaining 229 bodies are kept in holding centers and various health institutions.
Most of the bodies and remains collected on river banks and holding centers after the devastation of the floods have become impossible to identify further as they are decomposed and decomposed. Health experts have warned that despite the temporary management measures, the bodies have started to foul smell, increasing the risk of epidemics and serious health infections throughout the region.
Keeping in mind the pain of the family members who have lost their loved ones, the DNA (genetic trait) sample of each dead body will be collected and recorded on the basis of code number to keep the way open for identification in the future. After the documentation, the management of the dead bodies has been started in the open space of Devghat located in Bharatpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 1.
