Kathmandu. On the occasion of World Recycling Day, Khalesisi in collaboration with Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal has inaugurated a safe space ‘Samman Ghar’ for the children of women waste collectors. This facility has been installed within Khalisisi. It is a recycling and community innovation hub supported by Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal. The center focuses on strengthening the recycling system and improving the quality of life of the people who contribute to it.

Samman Ghar has been established to acknowledge the important but often invisible role played by women waste collectors in Nepal’s recycling system. While these women have collected valuable materials and contributed to keeping the city clean, they face challenges balancing daily work and childcare. The newly opened space provides children with a safe and caring environment where they can play, learn and spend time.

It aims to give mothers peace of mind and a sense of dignity while working. During the inauguration, Mr. Amun Thapa, CEO, Khalesi said, “Waste pickers are the backbone of Nepal’s recycling system, but their contribution is often overlooked. ‘Honor House’ is a small but meaningful effort to recognize their role.

At the same time, our goal is to provide their children with a safe place to learn and grow. At Khalesissi, we believe that building a circular economy also means ensuring the respect and support of the people who make it moving. Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal has been working with partners across the country to strengthen the recycling system, supporting the development of the Fuel Center and collaborating on various initiatives for environmental improvement and the overall well-being of the community.

Sneha Shrestha, Community & Sustainability Manager, Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal shared, “We believe that an effective recycling system is not only based on the infrastructure but also on the well-being of the people who make it possible. ‘Samman Ghar’ reflects our commitment to building a shared and better future. It works to advance environmental progress and empower communities. Through our partnership with Khalisisi, we are proud to celebrate the invaluable contribution of women waste collectors and create a safe and caring environment for their families. We will continue to be committed to building inclusive and sustainable communities. ”

In the coming days, Khalesisi plans to expand the concept of ‘Honor House’ and provide more support to waste collection families. Under this, the possibility of health support, educational opportunities for children, and community-centered programs is being studied. The inauguration conveys the message that collaboration between social enterprises and the private sector can create a socially inclusive recycling system not only environmentally but also socially.
