Finance Minister Khanal meets Asian Development Bank Chairman Kanda

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal, who is in Washington DC on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), held a meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda on October 14.

During the meeting, Minister Khanal highlighted the longstanding contribution of the Asian Development Bank to Nepal. He added that the incumbent government was committed to creating an investment-friendly environment for the development of private sector.

Referring to the big infrastructure projects currently being constructed with the investment of the Asian Development Bank, Khanal invited Kanda to visit Nepal.

On the occasion, Kanda inquired about the political changes taking place in Nepal and maintaining good governance. He also expressed his eagerness to visit Nepal at an appropriate time.

Speaking at a meeting of the World Bank and IMF South East Asia Group Governors on Monday, Minister Khanal urged the foreign investors to invest in hydropower production and IT infrastructure development in Nepal. Saying the implementation of development projects has been delayed, Khanal suggested the World Bank to further simplify standards and directives for project implementation.

He also urged IMF to equally pay attention to local needs and situation of particular countries while implementing although it was necessary to formulate global standards for the stability of the financial sector. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Bishwanath Poudel was also present on the occasion.
