Kathmandu. The operation of long-route transport has been suspended for 3 days after the risk of incessant rainfall increased.
Issuing a notice today, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has decided to shut down the operation of long routes for three days. “As per the forecast of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the next 3 days, hence the decision has been taken to shut down the operation of long-route vehicles,” the notice reads.
The notice states that the vehicular movement to and from the Kathmandu Valley and long routes from Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces have been closed for October 1, 20 and 3 to minimize the risk of flood, landslide and inundation caused by heavy rainfall and the resulting disaster.
The authority has also directed the Chief District Officer and the security bodies concerned to strictly stop the movement of vehicles on long routes and to the Kathmandu Valley except the most essential ones, and to carry out regular monitoring and monitoring of the same.
