Kathmandu. Employees of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) have demanded the resignation of Chairman Hemanta Basyal and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chudamani Chapagain.
Issuing a press release today, NEPSE Employees Association has demanded the resignation of Basyal and CEO Chapagain. Basyal has been appointed as the chairman and Chapagain as the CEO of NEPSE on the basis of political party cadres, political influence and division.
The association has claimed that it would be a conflict of interest to appoint Basyal as chairman at a time when there is a dispute between his consultancy and NEPSE regarding the old payment. “It seems that Basyal has joined NEPSE with the wrong intention of settling the old accounts,” the statement reads. Everyone involved in the process of appointing him needs to be brought under scrutiny. ’
Similarly, CEO Chapagain has come to NEPSE as an ‘additional force’ to support the work that he could not do alone. “Leaving behind the salary of Rs 500,000 per month as the CEO of NRN Infrastructure and Development and other facilities, he has come to NEPSE with an allowance of Rs 2,500 per sitting, which has raised a big question about his intentions,” reads the statement.
Similarly, it has been 6 months since his appointment that CEO Chapagain has been working under undue pressure, influence and direction of middlemen rather than restructuring NEPSE, bringing in international technology and increasing investors’ confidence. “Due to his inability to prepare a clear action plan and his poor decision-making ability, there is no possibility of him taking any initiative for the improvement of the organization in the coming days,” the statement reads.
“All the employees will wear black bands on their hands, sit on sit-ins, padlock the office of the CEO and demand the resignation of the chairman and CEO from September 22 until their demands are met,” reads the statement.
