Kathmandu. The Gen-Zs have strongly protested against the government’s repression of Monday’s protests. They have now also announced that they will vote for the leaders of political parties.
The Gen-Zs’ joint organization, Gen-Zs, issued a statement on Monday evening, sharply criticizing the government for the repression of the Gen-Zs. ‘You did not hesitate to shoot children and youth. We saw what you, the government and the political parties did today. We were there,’ the statement said, ‘We saw the bullets you fired tearing the school uniforms and the blood splattering from our brave friends. We will carry these names and these faces with us and we will not let you forget either. We have seen your guns pointed at students in school uniforms, your shoes trampling peaceful protesters. This is your barbaric, corrupt and unworthy display of power. We have experienced your cruelty for years. But, no more.
The statement said, “You became leaders because we voted for you. We the Nepali people whose children you murdered today. You are in those positions because of us and our parents and grandparents. Today, we take that back. We no longer consider you our leaders. Our movement to remove all of you from those positions of power begins here.”
The statement said that the parliament has lost the trust of the people and no longer represents the people. “For every life lost on September 8, for every dream stolen by your corruption, we will speak out and stand firm,” the statement said. “You promised democracy and delivered a dynasty. You promised peace and gave us authoritarian rule. You turned every revolution into your retirement plan,” the statement said. “That cycle ends today.” Now we will throw you out of the vote.’
The five unchangeable demands put forward by Gen-Z are:
- Dissolution of parliament,
- Entire resignation of MPs,
- Immediate suspension of high-ranking officials directly involved in firing or issuing orders for violent repression,
- An interim government led by someone we recommend,
- Soon elections under an interim government.
