Kathmandu. Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has stressed the need for common responsibility with the cooperation of all sectors to solve the problem of drinking water crisis in eight districts of Madhes Province. Addressing the inaugural function of “Nirmal Basti Drinking Water Project” at Thori Rural Municipality-4 in Parsa today, Minister Yadav said the districts of Tarai-Madhes are facing one serious water crisis in history.
“There is a serious shortage of drinking water in the districts of Tarai-Madhes. Now there is no sympathy, there is a need for common responsibility,” he said, adding, “Drinking water crisis is not only a problem of Madhes province, it is our common challenge.” The time has come for everyone to join hands to resolve the crisis. ”
Similarly, Minister Yadav shared that he and the entire ministry were working round the clock to ensure clean and safe drinking water as a fundamental right of the citizens even in the difficult times in the Tarai-Madhes region.
“In this hour of disaster, we have been engaged to ensure clean and safe drinking water to the citizens. I want to assure the common people that the drinking water problem here will be solved soon,” he said.
On the special initiative of the Ministry of Drinking Water led by him, the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal has declared eight districts of Madhes Province as disaster-prone areas for three months.
“The time has come to look at this crisis not just as sympathy but as a shared responsibility and join hands to find a solution,” he said. I sincerely urge donor agencies, organizations and civil society to provide necessary support. ”
Minister Yadav claimed that the Nirmal Basti Drinking Water Project at Thori Rural Municipality-4 was a reflection of the ministry’s commitment towards a sustainable and strategic solution to end the long-term drinking water crisis in thori area.
“This project is not only the construction of pipelines, pump houses or tank structures, but also to supply regular, safe and reliable drinking water to the citizens,” he said. ”
At least 2,165 population of Thori will be directly benefited through this project, said Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management.
According to him, overhead tanks, deep tubewells, office buildings, pump houses and water treatment plants have been constructed, which is expected to supply safe and clean drinking water to the people here.
Thori Rural Municipality Chair Lal Bahadur Shrestha, Vice-Chair Gokuli Kumari Regmi, District Land Commission Parsa Chair Taberez Ahmed, Project Chief Bipul Kumar Lal Das and construction entrepreneurs were present on the occasion.
