Kathmandu. Rasuwa: The Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has said that the construction of projects with a capacity of more than 350 MW has been halted due to the Rasuwa floods.
Issuing a press release today, IPPAN informed about the damage caused to the Rasuwa hydropower project and said that the construction work of projects with a capacity of more than 350 MW has been stopped. Among the under-construction projects, 216 MW Upper Trishuli 1100 MW Super Trishuli and 37 MW Trishuli 3B hydropower projects have also been damaged by the floods.
According to IPPAN, all hydropower projects except Devighat, Trishuli and Trishuli 3A are projects constructed with the participation of the private sector, while all the projects under construction are hydropower projects being constructed under the leadership of the private sector.
Ippan has said that the production of about 250 MW hydropower projects operating due to rasuwa flood has been stopped. According to IPPAN, 111 MW Rasuwagadhi hydropower, 60 MW Trishuli 3A hydropower, 25 MW Trishuli hydropower station, 22 MW Chilime hydropower, 14 MW Upper Mailung, 14 MW Devighat hydropower project and 5 MW Mailung Khola hydropower project have been shut down. Of these, the trishuli 3B hub substation, which supplies electricity to Mailung, Upper Mailung, Devighat and Trishuli hydropower stations, has been damaged. According to the statement, the projects have suffered huge physical and financial losses.
Due to the damage to the Trishuli 3B Hub substation and transmission line, which transmits electricity from the Trishuli River Corridor, the electricity generated from there will suffer a loss of crores of rupees every day due to lack of production and transmission in the next few days.
According to the statement, more than 10 hydropower projects on the Nepal side under construction and completed in Rasuwa and Nuwakot have been damaged by the floods in the Lehenda Rivulet (Bhotekoshi), which enters Nepal through Tibet in China, on July 24. “We deeply regret the loss of seven lives and the disappearance of 19 civilians in the dry port under construction at Timure by washing away the Miteri Bridge connecting Nepal and China,” it said.
