Kathmandu. Chinese scientists have identified 20 new viruses in bats. Two of these deadly viruses are very similar to Nipah and Hendra. Both these viruses cause severe inflammation in the human brain and also cause respiratory diseases.

According to a report published in the journal PLOS Pathogens, bat urine can increase the risk of spreading the disease to humans and animals.

Researchers from the Yunnan Institute of Endemic Disease Control and Prevention examined kidney samples from 142 bats of 10 species collected between 2017 and 2021. In this research, 22 viruses were found. Of these, 20 were those about which no one had any information before. The two viruses that raised people’s anxiety were the Greek bat henipavirus 1 and 2. Which are very similar to Hendra and Nipah viruses. Both these viruses prove to be very deadly for humans and animals.

Scientists have discovered in the study that these viruses can spread through bat urine and that is what worries them. These viruses were found in the urine-producing kidneys. In this case, they believe that it can spread through urine. If the fruit or water near the bat’s habitat becomes dirty, the virus can spread to humans or animals through it.

During the study, scientists discovered a new protozoa parasite (Clociala eunanensis) and bacteria never seen before. Which is called Flavobacterium eunensis.

At present, there is no risk of spreading any kind of epidemic. However, virologists are very concerned after this study. Experts say, “It is a serious matter that dangerous viruses are still hidden in nature. What is worrying is that never before has it been noticed that this virus can spread through urine. At present, there is no evidence of the spread of any disease. However, there is still a risk of animal-to-human transmission of the virus. ’

By destroying nature, people are building their homes there. As a result, humans and wild animals are now facing each other. The main reason for this is climate change.

These bats were building their homes in a fruit garden near the village. This is an area where they can easily come in contact with people. In fact, these bats can also infect people by contaminating fruits. Research has shown that dirty fruits or water can increase the risk of kidney damage.

Experts have suggested some easy ways to stop its spread. which can be followed.

  • Scientists should examine all parts of bats more closely. Especially their kidneys.
  • Improve local public health infrastructure.
  • Alert people to wash or cover fruits and boil water before eating.
  • It is important to keep an eye on wild animals to prevent the spread of epidemics in the country.
