Kathmandu. Chitwan district has been declared as the tourism capital of Bagmati Province. A meeting chaired by Chitwan District Coordination Committee Chief Narayan Prasad Adhikari on Tuesday decided to recommend the Bagmati state government for declaring bagmati as the tourism capital.
According to Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal, it has been unanimously decided to declare Chitwan as the tourism capital of Bagmati Province and recommend it to be included in the bagmati state government’s policy and program for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
Chitwan is one of the 13 districts of Bagmati Province with the highest number of tourism activities. National and international tourists come here for the observation, study and research of biodiversity, rare wildlife in Chitwan National Park.
Twenty thousand lakes, Patihani and Someshwor Fort are listed among the 100 destinations of the Government of Nepal, while Meghauli is one of the best destinations of bagmati state government.
Tourism expert Bishwa Raj Subedi said that the tourism capital is eligible to be declared as a tourist capital due to its natural, cultural, religious and adventure tourism destinations, easy access, adequate housing facilities, tourist information center and necessary infrastructure.
Similarly, Chairman of Chitwan National Park Central Area Management Council Prakash Dhungana said that the tourism of the district is based on Chitwan National Park and emphasis should be laid on its conservation and promotion.
According to District Coordination Chief Adhikari, the announcement of the capital would play an important role in identifying the district in the national and international arena as the massive promotional campaign like Visit Bharatpur Year 2024 organized by Bharatpur Metropolitan City has had a positive economic impact on the entire region.
Deputy Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Chitrasen Adhikari, Acting President of Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ashok Adhikari, Tourism Expert of Ratnanagar Municipality Bheshraj Dawadi, Chairman of Regional Hotel Association Sauraha Om Prakash Pandey and Chairman of Reban Sauraha Dhruba Giri said that there were no two views on declaring the tourism capital.
According to tourism expert Subedi, more than Rs 50 billion has already been invested in chitwan’s tourism sector.
Similarly, the district has a bed capacity of 15,000 and more than 60 destinations.
