Kathmandu. The Chinese government has handed over the cash assistance announced for the flood victims of Nepal. On Sunday, Finance Minister Dr. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming handed over a cheque of about 30.5 million Nepali rupees ($ 20 million) to the Finance Minister after meeting Swarnim Wagle.
Ambassador Maoming also handed over Rs 30.6 million (USD 200,000) in cash provided by the Chinese Red Cross.
On the occasion, Ambassador Maoming said both Nepal and China would work together to face the huge disaster caused by the massive disaster in the Himalayan region.
Stating that the Chinese President and Prime Minister had sent a message that China was always with Nepal in times of disaster, Ambassador Maoming said other types of support provided by the Chinese government to Nepal have also started entering Nepal.
Ambassador Maoming said that two Chinese aircraft landed 50 tons of aid materials such as tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits and biscuits in Kathmandu today. He also said that additional assistance would be continued.
He also informed the Finance Minister that efforts are underway to bring back the Nepalis stranded at the Chinese side due to floods in Rasuwa district through Mustang’s Korola transit point.
Likewise, Chinese Ambassador Maoming informed that a skilled human resource including a Chinese helicopter has arrived in Nepal yesterday to rescue those trapped in the tunnel of the hydropower company.
He also informed the Finance Minister that the Government of China was working at a rapid pace to bring to Nepal a large quantity of cargo drone demanded by the Nepal government for the rescue.
Receiving the Chinese government’s assistance on behalf of the Government of Nepal, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle thanked the Chinese government for its support to Nepal, which was going through an unimaginable calamity.
Stating that both countries had suffered huge human and physical losses due to the disaster, he expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Government of Nepal towards the loss of life caused by China.
Finance Minister Dr. Wagle paid tribute to the Chinese nationals who lost their lives due to the floods and expressed deep condolences to their families.
Stating that the devastating damage of global warming has been borne by the countries of the Himalayan region, he stressed the need of cooperation between Nepal and China to combat it.
He also said that he expects a lot of support from China in the reconstruction of the damage caused by the floods this time. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maomingan paid tribute to the people of both the countries who lost their lives due to the floods.
