KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Balendra Shah Balen has claimed that the government has expedited the rescue and relief operations following the massive floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Balen expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and said the government was fully engaged in rescue and relief operations.
So far, more than 50 people have lost their lives due to the floods and many are missing. Bidur of Nuwakot, Uttargaya and Gosainkunda of Rasuwa, Gajuri, Galchhi, Benighat, Tripurasundari and Siddhalekh of Dhading and Shahid Lakhan and Gandaki Rural Municipalities of Gorkha have been most affected by the floods.
Balen said that more than 250 people have been rescued by government rescue team helicopters so far. He assured that the rescue operation will continue throughout the night with the deployment of security personnel.
A total of 100 beds have been set aside at Kathmandu-based Bir Hospital and National Trauma Centre for free treatment of the injured, he added.
He also pledged to intensify search for the people missing in the floods, arrange temporary shelter and food for the displaced families and reconstruct damaged roads, bridges, electricity and drinking water projects to restore normal life at the earliest.
He has also appealed to all the social organisations, industrialists, youth volunteers and the general public to unite in the rescue and relief campaign at this hour of crisis.
