Kathmandu. Tehran: Iran has said it has opened a blockade on the supply of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, which supplies oil from the Gulf countries.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a post on social media on Friday that with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage of all commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz has been declared “completely open” for the remainder of the ceasefire.
“With the ceasefire in Lebanon, it has been announced that the route for all commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz has been fully opened for the remainder of the ceasefire,” Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araqchi said in a social media post.
The Strait of Hormuz exports petroleum products and raw materials required for the production of chemical fertilizers to the Gulf countries including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq.
However, ships must transit through a “coordinated route” announced by Iran’s maritime authorities, Arakchi said.
US President Donald Trump also said in a post on Truth Social that the Strait of Iran is completely open and ready for full passage. “Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you,” Trump said.
In addition, Trump has warned that the naval blockade will remain in full force until the deal with Tehran is completed.
