Kathmandu. India’s largest airline IndiGo is preparing to recruit a large number of pilots. The company is recruiting more than 1,000 pilots. This is the largest recruitment drive carried out by any airline in the Indian aviation sector.
The decision comes after operational difficulties in December last year. More than 5,000 flights were cancelled in just 7 days due to a lack of crew members.
Recruitment will be for the post of trainee to captain. According to media reports, IndiGo’s recruitment process includes the rank of Trainee First Officer, Senior First Officer and Captain. The company is taking this step to meet its expansion and regulatory requirements.
Every month, 4 new aircraft are added. IndiGo will add 4 new aircraft to its fleet every month. New pilots will be needed to fly these aircraft.
The company is promoting 20 to 25 first officers to the rank of captain every month. It takes 6 months for a trainee officer to graduate. To become a captain, you need 1,500 hours of flying experience. The company is tightening these standards.
It is challenging to comply with the DGCA rules. According to the rules, each aircraft must have three sets of pilots (one captain and one first officer). However, IndiGo’s planes are heavily used. This requires twice the standard number of pilots. –Agency
