Kathmandu. The annual general meeting of the cooperatives has been tightened.

The Department of Cooperatives has issued a 7-point directive. According to the department, the directive has been issued as it is desirable to determine the issues of planning, working procedure and decision verification of the general meeting of the cooperative associations in accordance with the cooperative principle.

Now, cooperatives will have to publish the notice of the AGM along with the proposals 30 days in advance. An organization having two thousand or more members shall have to send its board members to the local level or ward to hold the general meeting and certify the decision of such a general meeting.

Similarly, cooperatives with 2,000 or more members may form up to 7 units for maximum participation in a place convenient to the members if the general meeting cannot be held in one place due to geographical location.

According to the Cooperative Act, 2074, the cooperatives have to mandatorily hold the general meeting within mid-January. All the details must be compulsorily updated to the department through the COPOMIS system within 15 days of the end of the AGM.
