India signs MoU with Russian company to manufacture passenger aircraft

Kathmandu. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Russian public joint stock company United Aircraft Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to manufacture the SJ-100 passenger aircraft.

The agreement was signed in Moscow on Monday. HAL has issued a statement in this regard.

“The SJ-100 is a small twin-engine aircraft. More than 200 aircraft have been built to date and they are operated by more than 16 airlines. ’

“The SJ-100 will be a game changer for short-haul flights under UDAN scheme in India. As per the agreement, HAL will have the right to manufacture the SJ-100 aircraft for domestic passengers.

According to HAL, this will be the first time in India that the passenger aircraft will be fully manufactured in the country. HAL had earlier started manufacturing the Avro HS-748 aircraft in 1961. Its production was discontinued in 1988.
