Ordinance issued to pave way for collection of names of new voters

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel on Wednesday issued an ordinance to amend the Voters’ List Act-2073 BS on the recommendation of the government, paving the way for the Election Commission to collect the names of new voters.

According to the law issued earlier, the voters’ list could not be collected for the election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4, 2002. According to Clause 4 (2) of the Voters’ List Act, 2073, the name cannot be registered in the voters’ list for the purpose of the same election after the announcement of the election date. Earlier, the EC had collected the voters’ list before the 2079 BS elections.

The Election Commission (EC) had written to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, demanding to pave the way for the collection of voters’ name list. President Poudel issued the ordinance as per the Article 114 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
