Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has banned the messaging app Telegram through the Telecom Regulator, Nepal Telecommunication Authority.
Following a directive from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the AUTHORITY on Friday directed the telecom service providers and internet service providers to immediately restrict access to Telegram within Nepal.
In a statement issued by the AUTHORITY, it has been directed to stop the access of Telegram app immediately as it has been understood that the incidents of online fraud through Telegram operating in Nepal are continuously increasing and being used for serious crimes such as property purification.
The app was not only a medium for information exchange and conversation, but also for free audio and textual content about the chosen topics.
According to the Ministry of Communications, the negative aspects rather than the positive aspects have been used as a medium in the cases of crypto transactions, digital fraud, etc.
