Kathmandu. The Office of the Auditor General has directed the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) to recover around Rs 9 billion from licensed telecom service providers. According to the 62nd annual report released on Wednesday, the government has released the fiscal year 2080 from various companies. Rs 8.66 billion is yet to be collected.

The second renewal period of a company operating telecommunication service expires on May 25, 2019. Out of 20 billion, Rs. Rs 189 million was paid on time and the remaining Rs. The Auditor General has directed the Telecom Authority of Nepal (NTA) to recover rs 2.97 billion in additional fees of 15 per cent for not paying rs 19.81 billion only on May 19, 2081.
Similarly, a private sector company had to pay Rs 20 billion for renewal for five years for the third time, out of which only Rs 6.40 billion had to be paid till June 15, 2081, while the office of the Auditor General has directed to recover a total of Rs 5.11 billion, including Rs 2.04 billion in additional fee of Rs 13.60 billion.
According to Rule 31 of the Telecommunication Regulations 2054, radio frequency fee has to be paid within six months of the end of each year, additional frequency, maximum frequency and VSAT fees other than the minimum frequency have to be paid in advance for each financial year within three months of the start of that financial year.
Rule (12) of the Telecommunication Regulations, 2054 provides that if the provision of submitting an application to the Telecommunication Authority by paying the renewal fee accepted while renewing the license is not renewed within the time, then the license can be renewed by charging additional fee.
Section 11 of the Radio Frequency (Allocation and Pricing) Policy, 2073 BS provides for renewal of basic telephone service.
In addition, the government has directed the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) to recover a total of Rs 388.35 million from internet service providers.
According to the Auditor General, rs 130.7 million has been deducted from various telecom service providers including royalty and fine to be paid last year’s income, while seven service providers have been found to have waived rs 14.25 4 million from customers.
Similarly, rs 243.4 million is yet to be paid as frequency and VSAT fees to be paid by a telecommunication service provider in the last fiscal year.
Rule 26 of the Telecommunication Rules, 2054 states that the licensed person has to pay 4 percent of the total annual income as royalty every year.
Similarly, service providers from Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) have to pay the prescribed amount from the year of receiving the letter for 10 years. Under this provision, the service provider who has obtained the license in the fiscal year 2080. According to the report, Rs 3.4 0 billion has not been recovered from the amount to be paid by Rs 81.
