Kathmandu. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed indefinitely from Friday due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Authorities have claimed that the tournament has been postponed for seven days, but the remaining matches of the tournament have become uncertain due to ongoing tensions.
The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off midway following warnings of attacks in neighbouring cities as one of the matches was held in Dharamsala in northern India on Thursday. With the postponement of this match, there is a cloud of uncertainty over the future of the ongoing edition of the game.
“It is not good to play cricket at a time when the country is at war,” a BCCI official told the Press Trust of India, adding that the league, which was scheduled to end in Kolkata on May 25, has been postponed.
Fifteen days after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India carried out missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people.
On Thursday, a blackout was imposed in several districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh amid reports of air raid warnings and explosion-like sounds in Jammu.
