Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made simple banking services mandatory for banks and financial institutions. KATHMANDU: The central bank has made arrangements for simple banking services through a unified directive issued to the banks and financial institutions.
The provision of simplified banking has been made especially for people with different abilities and senior citizens. Here are the provisions:
1. To provide banking services to senior citizens, people with disabilities and illiterate people by setting up special counters to provide easy access to banking facilities.
2. Financial institutions should collaborate with each other to set up at least one disabled-friendly ATM with Braille signs, control buttons and audio support in the ATM lounge and make at least one branch disabled-friendly at each local level.
3. In cases where a person with disability self-declarations that he or she can use financial services such as ATM, mobile banking, internet banking, the financial institution shall provide such services to the person.
4. Financial institutions should develop their websites and mobile banking apps in such a way that people with visual impairment can also use them.
5. Financial institutions should have visually friendly tactile features in the debit/credit cards they issue.
