Kathmandu. The Association of Economic Journalists (FJ) of Nepal handed over the insurance claim amount to Anil Sapkota, a member of the association. Nafiz handed over the claim amount received from Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (SALICO) and Siddhartha Premier Insurance to Sapkota on Sunday.
Sapkota is currently out of the country for personal purpose. According to the NAFIZ Secretariat, Rs 92,700 has been deposited in his personal account.
Nafiz had provided group accident insurance to its 235 members and advisors at the rate of Rs 700,000 each to Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (Salico) and Siddhartha Premier Insurance for one year effective from Poush 29, 2081. Sapkota had fractured his hand during the insurance period on November 12. The two companies had paid the insurance claim equivalent to the treatment expenses.
After the completion of the claim process, Salico paid Rs 92,700 to Nafiz on behalf of both the companies. Nafiz handed over the same amount to Sapkota on Sunday. Sapkota was paid the claim under the insurance cover of last year.
NAFIZ has already re-issued the ‘Group Accident Insurance’ to 274 members and advisors with a new one effective from January 12. A total of Rs 19.18 crore has been insured at the rate of Rs 7 lakhs each. The validity of this insurance is till January 29.
Menuka Karki, chairperson of NAFIJ, said that the insurance has provided financial security to the NAFIJ members. “There are many risks for journalists. Insurance is necessary to reduce the financial liability arising from such risks,” she said, adding that NAFIZ will continue its program of insuring its members. ’
