Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has resigned from his post on Tuesday. He announced his resignation through a Facebook status.
Poudel said that he has decided to step down from the responsibility of the Ministry of Health and Population. “What we saw on the streets of Kathmandu and across the country on September 23 was not appropriate in a democracy. The anger of the Genji generation on the streets and on social media is a natural and justified warning against corruption and misgovernance. They only asked questions,” he said. They want to reform the state system, not anarchy. ’
Poudel said that he has not been able to witness the scene of blood being shed by his own unarmed children, who have joined politics by adhering to the principle that ‘non-violence is the life of democracy’. “My conscience did not refuse to be a mute spectator to the behavior of the state by holding the same post in the ministry whose oath I took to save the lives of the citizens,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Nepali Congress for providing unwavering support and trust to him throughout his tenure as the Minister for Health and Population, experts and the people of his constituency Kathmandu-5 for providing advices, suggestions and support to make him successful. “I would like to express my special thanks to the employees, doctors, nurses and health workers working in the ministry and its subordinate bodies who are dedicated day and night to the health services of the citizens,” he said.
“The biggest ideal taught by his personal life and the NC party is that the general public should be at the centre of democracy and the state should be run on the basis of rules and procedures,” Poudel said. “If the law and system are violated, we should be prepared to pay any price to protect it. In a democracy, the voice of every citizen should be respected and dissent should be addressed through dialogue and not by force,” he said. ’
“The voice raised by today’s youth on the streets is not an insurrection, but a demand for reform. The country can move forward only by respecting the energy and consciousness of this generation, not by suppressing it. Not listening to their voices means denying the future of the country,” Poudel said, adding, “I could not remain in this moral crisis, arranging medical treatment for the injured on the one hand and being a part of the same state mechanism on the other.” Therefore, I have resigned from the post of Minister of Health and Population in support of the values of democracy and civil rights. ’
