Jenji agitation: Home Minister Lekhak in mood to resign

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is on the verge of resigning after the protests and the huge loss of life. He also informed his party, the Nepali Congress, that he would not remain in office.

During a meeting of the office-bearers and former office-bearers held at party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence this evening, Home Minister Lekhak said that he could not remain in the post on moral grounds. “There has been a huge loss of life and material in the Genji movement, there is no situation to stay in the post now, I will resign,” a leader present in the meeting quoted the writer as saying. ’

Genji protested against the government today against corruption, malpractices and censorship of social media. However, a scuffle ensued with the police near the Parliament House in Baneshwor.

The District Administration Office (DAO) had issued a curfew order to take the situation under control and to use rubber bullets against those vandalizing public property. The protests turned violent after police opened fire during the clashes.

After that, Jenji’s movement intensified outside Kathmandu as well. So far, 17 people have been killed in police firing in Kathmandu and 17 in Ihatari. So far, more than 300 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country.
