Director Subedi gave an informative presentation on insurance. Deputy Director Kundan Sapkota conducted the programme while Sundar Prasad Sharma delivered the welcome speech.

On the occasion, Mayor KC expressed his commitment that the local bodies would immediately appoint a contact person for insurance. He had also announced to allocate budget to insure houses within his municipality. There are 80,000 houses in the area. It is estimated that it will cost around Rs 3 million to insure the house by calculating the sum insured according to the local valuation and market price. He has expressed commitment to take such a proposal through the municipality session.

The participants have requested the committee to increase the sum assured, saying that the insurance companies have to insure the insurance amount lower than the actual price while insuring the animals. Stating that the insurance companies designated by the Insurance Committee for Agriculture and Livestock Insurance have not yet opened the branch office, they have requested to take initiative to open the branch office immediately.

There is unhealthy competition among insurance agents in this sector. They said that an agent used to publicise his company’s policy and other insurance companies’ policies were bad.

One of the participants requested that there should be no minimum cooling period for accidental diseases such as paralysis, which is listed as a deadly disease. He argued that heart attacks happen suddenly, but the 90-day cooling period was set for the insured and could not benefit from it. Director Subedi informed that the insurance committee would take necessary policy after holding internal discussions and studies in this regard.
