Kathmandu. Taplejung: The Insurance Committee has organized an awareness interaction and discussion programme on insurance in Phungling Municipality of Taplejung district. Mayor of Phungling Municipality Chhatrapati Pyakurel, Umapayer Bam Bahadur Bhattarai, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Taplejung Taranath Ghimire, Assistant Director of Insurance Committee Binod Kumar Pokharel and Assistant First TekRaj Pandey, local businessmen, teachers, employees of bank insurance companies at the local level, local people were present as the chief guests. ।
Mayor Pyakurel has urged the insurance committee to continue such a program in the coming days as the people’s representatives have come in the second half of their tenure. He also expressed commitment that the municipality is ready to incorporate insurance in its service. Stating that the curriculum in Taplejung district is going to be revised, Mayor Pyakurel has also requested to provide insurance-related textbooks in the curriculum and make necessary coordination.
On the occasion, Deputy Mayor Bhattarai urged the government to come to the region and provide insurance as there is a lot of potential for agriculture and livestock insurance in the region. The participants of the program said that there are many problems in agriculture insurance and requested to solve it. Stating that insurance companies are facing problems due to non-payment of claims on time, they have also urged to take initiative for payment of claims in a simple and easy way.
They have requested the insurance companies to take initiative for this as they are only in the district headquarters of Ilam district, so either the insurance company has to reach there or the insured has to reach the district headquarters themselves. It has been found that the insured of this area are facing problems due to lack of timely evaluation of agricultural technicians at the local level. They have also requested to increase the sum assured of boar goat and animal insurance.
